Please remember that we have Early Dismissal tomorrow (Holy Thursday) and there will be NO EXTENDED CARE!
There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday (Good Friday).
Students will return on Monday, April 4th.
We wish you all a safe and blessed Easter vacation!
Dear Parents, Guardians and Supporters of Sacred Heart Cathedral School,
We have begun the Holiest of Weeks in the Church Year with the celebration of Palm Sunday. We are fast approaching the Sacred Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. It is a time of great reflection but alto a time of great mercy. May this week be an opportunity for each us to stop, listen and reflect on the voice of our God.
We have been blessed with many events at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Our Science Olympiad team traveled to Orlando last weekend and competed at the state level. The team placed 6th competing in a field of 42 middle school teams. Congratulations to the students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and coaches. Our students are true scientists.
The eighth grade class attended the Chrism Mass this past Tuesday at 10 a.m. and enjoyed the luncheon following Mass. After cleaning the hall, the 8th graders played a game of basketball with our seminarians. A great time was had as this has become an 8th grade tradition for our students.
Our second grade students have been practicing for the Living Stations of the Cross that was prayed today at 1:30.
If you stay home this season or travel to relax or be with family, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you as we, united in our faith, go forward together to spread the good news of God’s love and mercy.
Blessings for a Blessed Easter,
Mrs. Elizabeth Snow
SHCS Poetry Night
Wednesday, April 20th – 6:00 p.m.
More details to follow. Please contact Mr. Elting if you or your child would like to read an original or published work of poetry.
Yesterday, our eighth grade students were in attendance as Bishop Parkes celebrated the Chrism Mass. According to Catholic Exchange,
“The Chrism Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop. At this Mass the Bishop blesses three oils, the oil of the catechumens, the oil of the infirm and holy chrism. These oils will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the year.”
We are fortunate that our students are able to participate in such a unique liturgical experience.
Please make plans to join us for a general PTO meeting on Wednesday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m. You will have a chance to win a reimbursement for a single, returning student’s registration fee (a $100 value), but you must be present to win.
Congratulation to the 5th & 6th grade girls basketball team for winning the Championship tournament last Saturday!
We also want to wish good luck and pray for a safe journey for our Science Olympiad team, families and coaches as they travel to Orlando to compete this weekend.
We are blessed to have such talented students, both athletically and academically! Go Gators!
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, students may wear a green shirt and green socks with their uniform pants / skirt.
As our third quarter draws to a close this Friday, student led conferences are scheduled for next week. Thank you for taking the time to be present with your child to talk about their goals and dreams. This is such an important component of their education. These young people need to become articulate in taking ownership of their learning. They can explain what they have learned, what they want to learn and set goals for the future. As parents, you, along with the teacher (s) and myself are the primary supportive element in all of this.
A special thank you to the parents who will be preparing lunch for our faculty and staff so they are ready and prepared for these conferences without having to scramble for lunch. I feel so blessed to be part of this community that works together, in partnership, for the most positive outcomes for our students.
Iowa Assessment testing is complete. Those students who were absent will complete the test with Mrs. Adams and myself.
Congratulations to all the members of the basketball teams at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. You represented our school and played diligently. I am so proud of the contribution you have made to your team. A special thank you to the coaches who have contributed their time and talent to make this a reality for the students. Once again, Sacred Heart Cathedral School students and parents are the best!
Congratulations to our National Junior Honor Society inductees. They will be recognized after our 8 a.m. Mass tomorrow, March 11th. A reception will follow for parents and students.
